COSCO Shipyard recently obtained a subcontract from Japan's Mitsui Marine Development Corporation (MODEC), which will be responsible for the modification of a floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) for the Italian oil company Amoca in the Gulf of Mexico oil field. -Mizton-Tecoalli project service.

The FPSO will be converted from the Suez-type tanker "Felicity Modec". Previously, MODEC had just acquired the 157,667 DWT Suez-type tanker “Felicity” (built in 2009) from the Belgian shipowner Euronav for about $42 million and plans to convert it to FPSO.

According to sources, the modification of the "Felicity Modec" is expected to take about 15 months to complete. The modified FPSO can process 90,000 barrels of oil, 75 million cubic feet of natural gas and 120,000 barrels of water per day, capable of storing 900,000 barrels of oil, and is expected to begin operations in early 2021.

In November last year, MODEC signed a letter of intent with ENI to supply, lease and operate an unmanned FPSO for the ENI Mexico subsidiary for a period of 15 years, in addition to five one-year alternative leases. According to the request of the letter of intent, ENI can also choose to purchase the FPSO.

Depending on the contract, MODEC will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, installation and operation of the FPSO, including the upper module handling equipment as well as the hull and marine systems. MODEC's group company SOFEC will design and supply the FPSO's detachable tower mooring system.
