The shipyard received an order for an LNG filling vessel

Japan Shipbuilding Corporation (JMU) recently signed a construction contract with Ecobunker Shipping to build a 2,500-cubic-meter LNG fuel tanker.

JMU said that the LNG gas supply vessel is part of the Tokyo Bay Ship-to-ship (STS) LNG fuel supply business, which will be ordered by Ecobunker's three shareholders, Sumitomo Corporation, Ueno Transtech and Yokohama Kawasaki International Harbor Company. Subsidies for the “High-performance facilities for harbor functions” managed by the Bureau of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

JMU has completed the conceptual design of the ship and LNG system and will manage the entire project. The hull design and construction work will be subcontracted to Fukuoka Shipbuilding, and LNG storage tank manufacturing (including LNG cargo handling systems) will be subcontracted to Atlantic Gulf & Pacific.

The ship is 95.57 meters long and 15.8 meters wide with a total load of 4,100 tons and a tank capacity of 2,500 cubic meters. At the same time, the ship will be able to store LNG and low-sulfur fuel oil.

The ship's LNG storage tank uses the SPB system, a LNG containment system jointly developed by Ishikawa Island Heavy Industries (IHI) and JMU.
